Word for Year 2023
This year, my best friend Taylor and I came up with more than a word a phrase to help us carry out our intention for the year. Sometimes the brilliant ideas show up for you just when you really need them.
Yes, I know we're all bombarded with the #NewYearNewYou, but let's change up that narrative that feels more stressful than anything else. And we're not really about that life. This year, let's start it off with being kind and nurturing to ourselves; putting perfection on the way back burner; and giving ourselves the grace to just be our authentic self. You are perfect just the way you are, my friend!
The phrase for the year is “take messy action!” And it’s just what I needed!
What does it mean to take messy action?
✨ Make the first step, even if everything isn’t perfect.
No one knows what you’re doing and they don’t care. So don’t let that discourage you.
✨ Just start; you don’t have to have it all figured out.
“Paralysis analysis” can creep in and debilitate your forward progress, so take small steps, improvise along the way; just keep it moving.
✨ Don’t psyche yourself out.
Give your inner critic a day off and quiet that voice in your head. Think of it this way, “what would you tell your kids?” 😉
✨Let go of the fear of failure.
Worst case scenario: things don’t work out and you do something else. Pivot 👇🏼
✨ Give yourself room to PIVOT.
Like above, don’t let failure stop you. Switch it up; use the opportunity to shift gears. Try a different approach.
✨ Take it one step at a time.
Easy does it. Baby steps, giant steps; it doesn’t matter. Just keep it moving, my friend!
✨ Leave some wiggle room for potential mistakes.
No one, not ONE person, get it right 100% of time. Like Bob Ross said, “there’s no mistakes, just happy accidents!”
✨ Get out of your own way.
Now a little tough love! “There’s no try, just do!” Don’t overthink it. Stop doubting yourself because you’re going to do great, no matter what that looks like for you.
✨ Don’t be your own critic.
Louder for the crowd in the back: stop overthinking! Think of what your best friend would tell you! You got this!
✨ Ask for help, and accept it.
We can’t do it alone. I know we try, but we need the help. So just say “thank you, friends” because we all get by with a little help from our friends!
